Main Components of Portland Cement Clinker

Portland Cement Clinker is an important component of Portland cement. Portland cement is attained by grinding Clinker with few amounts of a few other minerals; thus, its structure does not depart far from that of Clinker. Although the other potential ingredients may be inexpensive natural materials, Clinker is made in a kiln, which is an energy-intensive chemical process. One to two billion tons of Clinker are made in a year worldwide, and the details of its creation are therefore of great economic importance, as no viable substitute components for making cement-like materials exist at this time.

Unlike several other thermal products, Clinker is a fairly complex combination of various minerals, and so its creation depends on a multi-dimensional control of raw ingredients and a multi-staged heat action. The numerous constituents are combined in burning and creating cement clinker. The mixtures formed in the burning procedure have the possessions of setting and toughening in the existence of water.

They are known as Bogue compounds after the name of the person who identified them, Rober Herman Bogue (R.H. Bogue). The following Bogue compounds are shaped during the Clinker process.
