Top Steel Rebar & Wire Rod Suppliers

Germany, the Russian Federation, Italy, Belgium, and Japan were the top five exporters of Steel Rebar in the world in 2017 and 2018.

Steel Rebar is used to reinforce buildings and structures. The development of infrastructures and construction affects the steel rebar trade. So, it is imported by the countries where construction is prospering.

Industry Insight

The global steel rebar market size was valued at 214.9 billion Dollars in 2018 and was anticipated to grow at a Compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.2% from 2019 to 2025. The development of the construction sector is expected to continue to be a key driver for market growth. Growing construction yield, particularly in emerging countries such as China, Brazil, and India, and variegation programs in the Middle East are promoting the demand for steel rebar and wire rods.

In terms of quantity, the commercial section is planned to grow at a CAGR of 3.0% from 2019 to 2025. Urbanization in different parts of the world has caused a growth in the number of skyscrapers for business objectives, which, in turn, has increased the demand for steel rebar.
According to the statistics, Germany was the biggest exporter of Rebar (HS code 7213) from 1996 to 2018.

Germany, the Russian Federation, Italy, Belgium, and Japan were the top five exporters of Steel Rebar in the world in 2017 and 2018.
Germany exported 1.86 million Tons ($ 1.13 B) in 2017 and 1.80 million Tons ($1.31 B) in 2018, having sent its Rebar mostly to France, Poland, Netherlands, Switzerland, and the U.S.

In 2017, Turkey Exported 1.36 Million Ton ($656M) to Israel (287.2 KMT), Singapore (106.7 KMT), the Netherlands (104.1 KMT), the USA (103.1 KMT) and Haiti (78.4 KMT) as its top importers.

Spain exported 1.04 Million Tons ($585M) in 2017 and 1.250 Million Tons ($850M) in 2018, mainly to France, Belgium, Turkey, Israel, and Australia.

Russian Federation exported 995 KMT ($435M) in 2017 and 1.08 Million Ton ($589M) in 2018 to the Netherlands, Lithuania, Asia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, mentioning the top importers.

With exports of 998.6 KMT ($714M) in 2017 and 881.2 KMT ($706M) in 2018, Japan was ranked as the fifth big Rebar exporter, conveniently sent the most to its neighbours Rep. of Korea, China, Thailand, U.S., and Vietnam.

Italy exported 982 KMT ($510.4M) in 2017 and 1.06 Million Ton in 2018 ($666.1M) to Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Slovenia, and Czech Rep. as its top importers.

As the seventh largest exporter, Belgium exported 517.9 KMT ($273.7) in 2017 and 888.6 KMT ($537.5) in 2018 to the Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain, and the UK.

Germany, the USA, Italy, Israel, Poland, Romania, Spain, Thailand, Austria, and Taiwan were the largest importers of steel rebar in 2017 and 2018.

In 2017, considering the volume, the Netherlands, as the biggest importer, imported 1.5 Million Tons; the USA, as the second largest importer, had 1.4 Million Tons, and Germany, with 1.3 Million Tons, was the third big importer. However, in terms of trade value, the order will be different as:

  1. USA 40 Million Ton          $913.5 M
  2. Germany 32 Million Ton          $760.2 M
  3. Netherlands 56 Million Ton          $694.1 M

In 2018, Germany and the USA imported 1 million tons each as the top importing countries. The development of infrastructure and public services in European countries and the USA were the major drivers of rebar import to the region. Moreover, the proximity of EU members to each other (e.g., Germany, Italy, and France), as well as the EU free trade agreement, facilitated trade among them.
